Groundbreaking ceremony with Markus Frank, Head of Frankfurt’s Department of Economic Affairs

Construction of a new hazardous substances warehouse has begun at Industriepark Höchst. The project kicked off on Friday, April 23 with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony with City Councilor Markus Frank, Head of Frankfurt’s Department of Economic Affairs, Jürgen Vormann, CEO of Infraserv Höchst, and Andreas Brockmeyer and Klaus Alberti, Managing Directors of Infraserv Logistics GmbH. Infraserv Höchst, the operator of Industriepark Höchst, is investing EUR 34.9 million in the state-of-the-art warehouse being built in the southern part of the site.

Industriepark Höchst is an important business hub for Frankfurt

“Frankfurt is proud of Industriepark Höchst and what is being done here,” said City Councilor Markus Frank at the project presentation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the presentation took place online, followed by a photo shoot at the site. “Industriepark Höchst is doing a lot to make Frankfurt an attractive place to do business with many jobs for highly skilled specialists, training opportunities for young people and all the cutting-edge technologies being developed at the site.” He also highlighted the importance of the enormous investments being made at Industriepark Höchst. “As the Head of the Department of Economic Affairs, I am very pleased that Industriepark Höchst is doing so well. And since I am also responsible for safety, I find it particularly praiseworthy that the new warehouse will meet the strictest safety standards.”

Important part of the logistics infrastructure

“A large, dynamic site like Industriepark Höchst needs a high-performance hazardous substances warehouse,” said Jürgen Vormann, CEO of Infraserv Höchst. In his view, the new warehouse building is a milestone in the site’s evolution that will also strengthen Infraserv Logistics’s long-term competitive positioning. “One key aspect of this project is that we are investing heavily in digitalization, state-of-the-art safety and control technology, and can thus streamline our processes.”

New building offers opportunities for digitalizing processes

The new hazardous substances warehouse will be operated by Infraserv Logistics GmbH. Infraserv Höchst’s wholly owned subsidiary provides a raft of value-added logistics services at Industriepark Höchst and three other sites, mainly for customers in the chemical, pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. “The technology at the new warehouse will be state-of-the-art and enable the interfaces with customers and the processes between production, warehousing and distribution to be even more efficient, competitive transparent and customer-centric,” said Managing Director Klaus Alberti, who runs Infraserv Logistics GmbH with his colleague Andreas Brockmeyer. The new warehouse offers considerable opportunities to digitalize processes even more.

Andreas Brockmeyer sees a growing need for broadly licensed hazardous substance storage areas in the Rhine-Main Region: “Industriepark Höchst’s safety infrastructure and central location make it the ideal site for this kind of warehouse. Between the opportunities afforded by the new building and our wide range of services, we are extremely well positioned as a company to compete in the future.”

Commissioning after one year of construction

Measuring 220 meters long, 75 meters wide, 15 meters high, the new warehouse will hold around 21,500 pallet positions on a footprint of 16,500 square meters. The hazardous substance warehouse will be put into operation after only one year of construction. The new state-of-the-art building replaces and expands the current hazardous substance storage capacity at the site. The new hazardous substance warehouse will enable more efficient, cost-effective operations by keeping distances short and employing a new warehouse management program that will be simultaneously rolled out to all Infraserv Logistics warehouses.

The new building is divided into nine fire compartments, four of which are specifically designed for temperature-controlled storage of chemical, pharmaceutical and healthcare products. Hazardous substances or pharmaceutical products will be stored here in temperatures ranging from 2 to 8 degrees Celsius or between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. The permit for the new building in Industriepark Höchst covers an extremely wide range of hazardous substances (storage classes 2 – 6, 8 – 13 with water hazard classes (WGK) 1 – 3).
